I'm Jordan Stuart, a Client Portfolio Manager for the Federated Kaufmann Funds.
What opportunities are investors missing right now?
Investors remain cautious since the 2008 recession. And while we think it's prudent to be cautious with your investments, we think that that's only half of the coin for investors. There's tremendous opportunities in new businesses, such as data collecting, healthcare, that are creating new jobs, new ways of doing things, solving problems for others, and growing this economy in ways that we haven't seen before.
What are some examples of innovations that will have an impact on the economy?
You're seeing a constant change in our economy. We've seen it over time throughout history. Whether it's the tractor for farmers, whether the automobile for individuals. Consumers see it every day at the grocery store, bread with sugar, bread without sugar, gluten-free, extra gluten. These are opportunities that are presenting themselves at a pace in which we haven't seen before. This is creating a lower barrier to entry for small businesses, companies can be started by a click of a mouse. You have FedEx at your door, and you have customers at your fingertips, billions of customers because of social media. This is growing the economy in a different way than we've seen before, and this is adding value in ways that I think create tremendous opportunity.
