Consumers spent 691 billion dollars in 2018. In 2019, they spent 719 billion dollars and that increased to 777 billion dollars in 2020. The highest projection in 2021 is 859 billion dollars. Top items consumers worry about finding. 28% are worried about finding toys. 40% of consumers are worried about finding clothes. 44% of consumers are worried about finding electronics. Where consumers plan to shop. 24% of consumers plan to shop at small businesses. 47% of consumers plan to shop at department stores. 57% of consumers plan to shop online. Each shopper plans to spend to average of 272 dollars on gift cards this year. Annual gift card sales. In 2019, gift card sales were 26 billion dollars. The sales increased in 2020 to 27 billion dollars. It is projected to increase again in 2021 at 28 billion dollars.
