Projected back-to-school spending is $82.8 billion with the average amount spent per student in kindergarten through 12th grade being $685, while the average amount spent per college student is $942. The strong economy is expected to boost retail’s second-biggest season. The average amount spent per students in kindergarten to 12th grade is $237 on clothes, $187 on electronics, $139 on shoes and $122 on supplies. For college students, the average amount spent per student is $229 on electronics, $153 on clothing, $109 on furnishings and $103 on food.
